Listening to Songs, Watching the Clouds

Jimi Hendrix ~ Little Wing

A recent project set me a task of making a book with a randomly chosen subject matter. I chose the word "clouds" and so decided on creating a book that revolved around lyrics containing clouds. I then accompanied the lyrics with images and layouts that reflected the mood of the song . In this piece i used lyrics from a Jimi Hendrix song, Little Wing. The colours are bright and the lighting is hazy, creating a dream like feeling which mirrors the song.

Kings of Leon ~ Fans

Screenprinted lines on a brown paper gave this page a delicate background which constrasts well with the bold cloud shapes and lines of lyrics. I wanted to show sadness through the colours and i wanted the raindrops from dark thunder clouds to represent tears falling.

Eva Cassidy ~ Somewhere over the Rainbow

Somewhere over the rainbow is a very simplistic song whilst at the same time being emotive. Simple doodles, on lined paper convey what a girl daydreaming could create; i didnt over complicate it because there's an innocence about it i wanted to keep.

Incubus ~ Anna Molly

I again used a lined pattern screenprinted as a background, this time to represent streaks of rain. The lyric 'Satellite' made me think of electricity , so the vertical lines and squares inside the cloud are ways of expressing a digital and electronic piece of the song. At the same time the bold colours and cartoon style cloud reflect loud and forceful elements of the song.
